Award-winning opera singer, actor and songwriter Jessica Hitchcock is an Indigenous performer, composer and singer-songwriter with family origins from Saibai in the Torres Straits and Papua New Guinea. Her charismatic stage presence and versatile performance sphere draw on over 15 years of musical experience.

The last few years have seen Jessica transition from a Jazz background into the world of opera after joining Short Black Opera Company where she has worked as an artist and teacher for the last six years.

The role of ‘Alice’ created in Pecan Summer was Jessica’s debut professional opera production. She received a Broadway World award for best supporting actress in an opera for her creation of this role at the Sydney Opera House, 2016. These years with Short Black Opera led to the opportunity to sing a lead role in Opera Australia’s production of The Rabbits, for which she was awarded a prestigious Green Room Award for Best Female in a supporting role also in 2016.

For the last 2 years Jessica has been touring with Mission Songs Project, a very important collection of songs bringing voice to Indigenous Australians. Whilst also working as Kate Miller-Heidke’s backing vocalist touring around Australia.

Jessica’s first full album of original music is set to be released in May, 2019.
